Thank you for this fascinating and informative post!

Perhaps I’m being to scientific, but I’m wondering what the ethical fuss is about. Though mitochondria are organelles rather than organs, this procedure feels more like an organ transplant than an unethical pursuit in genetic engineering.

As far as I know, mitochondrial DNA does not interact with Human DNA at all. If I’m wrong, could you set me straight?

you are correct mitochondrial DNA and nuclear DNA do not interact. Most fertility experts agreed with you and felt there was minimall to no inherent risk in this procedure. Others including scientists and tose in the government feared the unknown since this was new and maybe something bad could happen - so we got a US ban.
