video link of the new surgery concept
Natural orifice surgery (also called Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery NOTES) was minimally discussed in the formal meeting but massively discussed in the halls and by the movers and shakers. It is radically different and enabling of new procedures. Combine this with the potential for disasterous outcomes and complications, a turf war between traditional surgeons and gasterenterologists (the latter who would not be able to manage the complications they might cause), VC money, dcotors looking to make a name creating new procedures, and device companies smelling new procedures and markets and you have the setting for an exciting next few years! I will be providing regular updates & back room doctor’s debates.

Wow…sounds amazing! After a tease like that, you have to give us more insight into the market forces that are affecting the development of this medical procedure.
It’s funny…even now, I have this image of medicine as somehow above the market forces that manipulate it. But your post reminds me that doctors have to exist in an environment that demands profitability for procedures and instruments, not just medical efficacy.
Great post. And I am totally digging your blog, DITM!!

Interesting post – it is without doubt setting the world on fire in terms of BUZZ. All the big companies are repositioning themselves (J&J with Endosurgery, PMI, Boston Sci) But the smaller start ups as always are getting in first and finding the applications – MINOS MEDICAL Inc claims to have systems for appendix, Gallbladder and interestingly hysterectomy. Very big applications indeed. I await developments with baited breath…
